Resumes

Your resume needs to be clear and concise. One page.

Along with being clear and concise, your resume needs the following:

  • Keyword Optimization
  • ATS Compliance
  • Quantitative Results and Accomplishments to showcase Business Impact
  • Emphasis on Technical Skills, NOT SOFT SKILLS
  • Certifications

Keyword Optimization

Your resume needs to be keyword optimized.

To do so, you need to have keywords that are straight from the job description into your resume.

Keyword optimization means including the following into your resume:

  • Specific skills such as software
  • Industries and applications worked
  • Technical core competencies
  • Action words such as design, analyze, create with respective metrics (This is the hardest part!)

ATS Compliance

You also need to make sure your resume is ATS optimized.

ATS stands for applicant tracking system and it’s the software that companies integrate to make finding candidates a lot faster for jobs.

This is why sometimes, you might see yourself getting automatically rejected. This is because the ATS software did not deem your resume acceptable.

Our resume will crush the ATS scanner dead in it’s tracks.

Business Impact

Companies love it when you can say that you save money on resume.

They absolutely love it.

Executives, hiring managers, and recruiters will all love to see numbers on your resume.

For each bullet point in your resume, do everything you can to showcase metrics such as:

  • Revenue
  • Profit
  • Income
  • Time Savings
  • Cost Savings
  • Operational Efficiency Increases
  • Waste Reduction

Technical Skills

We focus on technical skills here.

Forget the soft skills, it’s all corporate fluff.

Make sure you DO NOT include the following phrases and keywords on your resume:

  • ❌ Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • ❌ Strong problem solving mindset
  • ❌ Ability to work with multiple disciplines

Why?

Because everyone can put those phrases on their resume, without it meaning anything.

When you put hard, technical skills, you are showing what you SPECIFICALLY can do.

Make sure you put these types of technical skills onto your resume:

  • ✅ Software
  • ✅ Designing
  • ✅ Analyzing
  • ✅ Modeling
  • ✅ Creating
  • ✅ Calculations
  • ✅ Presentations
  • ✅ Meetings

Certifications

Make sure to include relevant certifications you have for the job.

Some jobs require certifications.

They’re also good to get if you’re looking to add more experience and meat in your resume.

Specific certifications and credentials to include on your resume are:

  • Professional Engineering Licensure
  • Registered Nurse
  • Project Management Professional
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Lean 6S Black Belt / Green Belt
  • Coursera – Scrum, Agile Frameworks
  • Coding Bootcamps

To name a few.

Cover Letters

The ultimate aid to a resume is a cover letter.

A good cover letter is one that showcases you as a business asset and ties in your macroeconomic relevance to the position that you’re applying for.

Companies are businesses and as a result, the more you showcase your macroeconomic contributions the better.

Our cover letters are three paragraphs:

First Paragraph

The first paragraph of your cover letter will be the introductory paragraph and what you need to do is tie in your macroeconomic relevance to the position you’re applying for.

Identify what product or feature you’ll be working on, and which industry it ties into.

This will put you in the Top 1% of all candidates who submit a cover letter – job seekers don’t do this and are missing out!

Second Paragraph

This will be a high level overview of your skills, accomplishments, and achievements.

Make sure to use high level quantitative results and achievements for the second paragraph of your cover letter.

Third Paragraph

This will be the closing paragraph which ties the first and second paragraph together.

Tie your background, skills, and accomplishments with the macroeconomic products/applications that the position entails.

Interviews

Interviews that will be done will consist of an HR Phone Screening, Behavioral Interview, and Technical Interview

It’s imperative that you know how to answer the questions using the STAR format.

Check out: STAR Method for Interview Questions

HR Phone Screening

This will be the standard HR Phone Screening that will be done by the HR recruiter.

This will consist of very standard questions and it’s a check to make sure you’re normal.

The 6 Questions in an HR Phone Screening are:

  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why are you interested in this position
  • Why are you interested in working at this company
  • Where do you see yourself in five years
  • Why should we hire you?
  • Walk me through your resume

This is to make sure that you meet the basic requirements for the job.

Behavioral Interview Questions

Behavioral Interview Questions must be answered using the STAR format. There are no exceptions to this.

Answering the STAR questions will put you in the Top 1% of all interviewing candidates.

Some questions that are expected on behavioral interview questions consist of:

  • Tell me about a time you ran into a conflict
  • Tell me about a time you disagreed with someone
  • What are your greatest strengths?
  • What are your greatest weaknesses?

Make sure you answer with the Situation, Task, Action, and Result (STAR) for each and everyone of these questions and you’ll be good to go.

Technical Interview Questions

Technical interview questions will be specific to the type of position that you are applying for.

You will be asked a range of questions such as definitions, calculations, design, coding, or a given scenario.

Make sure you review the specific technical questions that may come up in an interview for your position.

If you want to crush your interview, make sure you prep with our mock interview service.

LinkedIn Optimization

Along with searching for jobs using engines such as indeed or LinkedIn, you will need an optimized LinkedIn profile.

LinkedIn Profile

An optimized LinkedIn consists of having the correct:

  • Profile URL
  • Banner
  • Images
  • Headlines
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Results and Accomplishment Writing Framework
  • Skills
  • Certifications

With the optimal LinkedIn, you should expect to have dozens of recruiters flood your inbox with DMs for job interview requests.
