Mechanical Engineer Resume Summary Examples

Disclaimer – I know, this post is about mechanical engineer resume summary examples. However, I highly do not recommend a Mechanical Engineer Resume summary section. Instead, your experience speaks for itself. A summary section is redundant and does not provide value, because your resume should already summarize your career clearly and concisely.

That being said, there are times when a summary section is needed or desired by hiring managers. If you are requested to add a summary section, then you should do so. If you’re not requested, then don’t.

Should I put a summary in my mechanical engineering resume?

Only when needed or explicitly said so by the recruiter. If you feel the need to summarize your experience in a summary section, then go for it. I do highly advise against putting a summary in your resume. Again, your experience should speak for itself. Recruiters are used to resumes following a certain format. They review education, experience, and skills.

What Should A Mechanical Engineer Resume Summary Include?

A mechanical engineer resume summary needs:

  • Keywords
  • Be clear and concise
  • Display quantitative results and accomplishments

The above bullets need to be covered at a high level.

Along with above, I also recommend tying your role to your contribution in a macroeconomic manner. See below for the examples I will use in various industries.

Mechanical Engineer Resume Summary Examples (By Job Title)

Successfully implement AGILE and Scrum frameworks to meet deliverables at 95% on time performance. Highly experienced in economics, engineering, and business management.

Design Engineer

Highly experienced in BOM creation, design reviews, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Designed $10M+ USD worth of mechanical equipment such as military aircraft and industrial grade pumps.

Structural Engineer

Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager with 15 years of experience leading teams of 10+ overseeing $200M+ engineering projects annually. Led company standardization efforts, reducing internal engineering lead times by 500%.

As you can see from the above, the intros I use are clear and concise. They use the value generated from engineering projects as a quantifiable result.

Many engineers today are leaving out valuable info such as quantifiable results and accomplishments. Leaving out quantifiable results will cause engineers to miss out on job opportunities.

I always stress including quantitative results on my clients’ resume for this reason.

If you want to write your summary yourself make sure to include the following key points:

  • Position Title
  • Years of Experience
  • Macroeconomic involvement
  • Hard skills
  • Quantitative results and accomplishments

Include the above points in your summary and then it will be solid.
